Nonstructure 103, midden

About this Nonstructure

No Surface
No Masonry

General Location

Central portion of the site.

Specific Location

Northwest of Arbitrary 101, 106, and Nonstructure 107. About 12 m northwest of the midden.

Selection Criteria

Nonstructure 103 was used to investigate a small remote sensing anomaly.

Use

Nonstructure 103 is secondary refuse and construction material likely from Structures 108, 109, and 111.

Abandonment

Nonstructure 103 was no longer used after the decommissioning of Structures 108, 109, and 111.

Postabandonment Process

Nonstructure 103 was deposited through natural processes (wind and water) and from plowing activities.

Dating of Midden

Excavation Details for Excavation Units

In order by excavation unit number.

Excavation Unit

1

Location

1-x-3 meter grid unit, long axis oriented north-south 2322N 2079E.
Just south of the center of the site.
Located directly southwest of Structure 111; Structure 109 in the northwest portion of this unit may have been built over the antechamber of Structure 111.

Selection Criteria

Judgmental. This unit was selected in order to test small storage rooms (Structures 108 and 109) located south of the main chamber of the pit structure (Structure 111).

Excavation Strategy

Natural strata.

Unit Ends at

Other. Excavation in this unit terminated at three different surfaces in three different study units. In Nonstructure 304 (the prehistoric ground surface), excavation was terminated at approximately 89.35 m. A 1 m x 0.5 m test window was dug into the south porti

Excavation Unit

8

Location

1-x-3 meter grid unit, long axis oriented north-south 2327N 2080.5E.
Near the center of the site.
Located directly northeast of Structures 108 and 109; Structure 109 may have been built over the antechamber of Structure 111.

Selection Criteria

Judgmental. This unit was selected in order to test a pit structure (Structure 111) that was located as an anomaly during electrical resistivity survey.

Excavation Strategy

Strata subdivided into arbitrary levels. Strata were subdivided into 25-cm levels when applicable.

Unit Ends at

Bedrock. The structure floor (Surface 1) was encountered at an elevation of approximately 88.27 m. Fill continued into Features 1, 3, 4, and 5. An attempt was then made to subfloor Structure 111 by removing the fill that had been used to create Surface 1 and level
