Guided by archaeologist Christopher Powell and textile expert Walter Morris, we tour ancient Maya cities—including magnificent palaces, massive pyramid temples, and intricately carved stone stelae—and we visit modern highland villages to explore how the traditions and symbols of the ancient Maya are preserved in the customs, ceremonies, and textile art of the Maya people today. Only recently has archaeological research begun shedding light on Oman's distant past—from the first arrival of humans some 125,000 years ago to the development of a flourishing trading culture during medieval times.
