Students learn about Pueblo history in a hands-on activity during their Crow Canyon field trip.

Pueblo History and Archaeology Tour
School Field Trip

Grades 4–12

For more than 100 years, archaeologists have been conducting research into the history of Pueblo Indians in the American Southwest. Through careful excavation and documentation of archaeological sites, they have traced the history of Pueblo peoples back thousands of years.

On this field trip, your students will experience what it's like to be an archaeologist by examining artifacts and other clues dating from different time periods. They will use their observations to make inferences about how and when various objects were used, before finally constructing a cultural chronology of the region.

Later, students will take a special tour of Crow Canyon's current excavation site to get a feel for the places where Pueblo people lived and to better understand how archaeologists conduct their fieldwork. (Read about where we are excavating this year.)
