What to Expect: Main Trip

Travel

All road travel is by air-conditioned coach; the longest drive will be on November 14, when we travel all day from Salta to Purmamarca. Most of the trip takes place at elevations between sea level and 7600 feet, but one drive climbs to 12,385 feet. There is one internal round-trip flight (Buenos Aires–Salta). All archaeological sites are easily accessible from roads. Our pace will be leisurely, but you must be comfortable standing and walking for several hours at a time. If you have any doubt about your ability to participate, please contact us.

Accommodations

All nights are spent in comfortable hotels, including boutique hotels; three nights are spent at a wine resort. Shared accommodations are based on double occupancy. Single accommodations are available for an additional fee of $1,500.

What to Expect: Post-Trip Extension to Atacama Desert, Chile

Travel

It will take a full day to drive from Salta, Argentina, to the Atacama Desert, traversing mountain ranges at elevations of nearly 14,500 feet; after arriving in Chile, we will be touring at elevations between sea level and 8600 feet. We suggest you consult your physician regarding travel at such altitudes. All road travel is in air-conditioned coaches, and there is one internal flight (San Pedro de Atacama to Santiago, one-way). Our pace will be leisurely, but you must be comfortable standing and walking for several hours at a time. If you have any doubt about your ability to participate, please contact us.

Accommodations

All nights are spent in comfortable accommodations and boutique hotels. Shared accommodations are based on double occupancy. Single accommodations are available for an additional fee of $430.
