Zuni Communities Through Time
The Archaeology and Culture of the Zuni People

What to Expect
Travel
All travel is by Crow Canyon vans; expect drives on rough back roads. Although this program does not involve strenuous hiking, access to some sites requires hiking up to one-and-a-half miles roundtrip, occasionally over rocky, uneven terrain and on undeveloped trails at elevations over 5000 feet. Most site visits require standing for 30 minutes or more at a time. Our pace is leisurely and assistance is given, but you must be in reasonably good physical condition.
Tribal Permission
Portions of this itinerary are contingent upon tribal approval. Specific times for ceremonial dances are not announced in advance, nor is it known ahead of time whether non-Zuni people will be allowed to attend. We will leave our schedule flexible to take advantage of opportunities as they arise.
Accommodations
All nights are spent in comfortable motels. Motel accommodations are double-occupancy; single accommodations are available for an additional fee of $330.
Weather
The climate in the northern Southwest is generally very dry and sunny. Late spring and early fall daytime temperatures can be quite variable, ranging from the 50s to the 80s; summer temperatures can reach into the 90s and occasionally exceed 100 degrees. Nighttime temperatures are cooler and generally pleasant. Although it can rain any time, afternoon thunderstorms are most common in July and August.
