Cahokia, Chaco, & Mesoamerican Connections

What to Expect
Travel
This program begins in Durango, Colorado, and ends in St. Louis, Missouri. Travel in Colorado and New Mexico is by Crow Canyon van; travel in Missouri and Illinois is by mini-bus. Some drives are on remote dirt roads. There is also a one-way internal flight from Durango to St. Louis on Wednesday, October 10. Although this is not a hiking program, access to most sites will require walks of up to 2 miles roundtrip over uneven terrain.
Accommodations
All nights are spent in comfortable motels. Motel accommodations are double-occupancy; single accommodations are available for an additional fee of $330.
Weather
The climate in the northern Southwest is generally dry and sunny. Early fall daytime temperatures can be quite variable, ranging from the 50s to the 80s; nighttime temperatures are cooler and generally pleasant. Although it can rain any time, afternoon thunderstorms are most common in July and August.
The St. Louis area is characterized by a moderate climate. Early autumn is generally mild, with daytime temperatures in the 60s; again, rain is possible, though spring and summer are the wettest seasons.
