Bolivia's Andes and Altiplano
Archaeology, Geography, and Culture
What to Expect
Travel
We will be touring at elevations between 10,000 and almost 16,000 feet; we suggest that you consult your physician regarding travel at such altitudes. If you have any doubt about your ability to participate in this program, please contact us.
As we cross the Altiplano, we will travel in 4-wheel-drive vehicles on remote back roads; some drives last up to 6 hours. There is one internal flight (La Paz to Sucre), and two boat rides (on Lake Titicaca; 2 hours and 1½ hours). Our pace will be leisurely and assistance will be given, but you must be comfortable standing and walking for several hours at a time.
Accommodations
Most nights are spent in first-class lodgings. Some hotels in remote areas are basic, but clean and comfortable. Shared accommodations are based on double occupancy. Single accommodations are available for an additional fee of $344.
