What to Expect

Travel

All road travel is by Crow Canyon vans; expect drives on rough back roads. This program involves hikes of up to six miles round-trip, over uneven and difficult terrain, at elevations above 6,000 feet. When hiking in canyons, you may encounter precipitous edges or sloping canyon sides. Trails are not maintained, and you must feel comfortable traversing uneven sandstone and walking through thick brush. A commensurate level of physical endurance and hiking skill is required. To satisfy permit regulations, participants will hike in two small groups, alternating group leaders each day.

Accommodations

Three nights are spent in comfortable motels, and three nights are spent camping in an outfitted camp with a backcountry kitchen, water supply, and port-a-potties, but no running water or showers. You may bring your own camping equipment or we will rent equipment for you at an additional cost. Motel accommodations are double-occupancy; single accommodations are available for an additional fee of $180.

Weather

The climate in southeastern Utah is generally very dry and sunny. Late spring and early fall daytime temperatures can be quite variable, ranging from the 60s to the 80s; nighttime temperatures during these seasons can dip into the 40s. Although it can rain any time, afternoon thunderstorms are most common in July and August.
