100 Pots (and More) from the Earl Morris Collection
Steve Lekson Book Guides New Exhibit at University of Colorado
Make plans this year to visit the University of Colorado (CU) Museum of Natural History for "Ancient Southwest: Peoples, Pottery, and Place," an exhibit that includes more than 100 pots from the museum’s Earl Morris Pottery Collection. The exhibit is based on the book "A History of the Ancient Southwest," written by the university’s curator of archaeology and professor of anthropology, Steve Lekson. Steve is a former president of Crow Canyon.
The exhibit describes and illustrates 10 centuries of prehistoric Southwestern pottery, most of it from the Four Corners area. Also included are aerial photos by photographer Adriel Heisey.
An opening reception will be held February 27, 2013, at CU's Changing Gallery, followed by a lecture by Steve at the Paleontology Hall.
Also as part of the exhibit, artist Clint Swink will present "The Renaissance of Mesa Verde Pottery," on March 7, and Adriel Heisey will present "Places of Meaning, Moments of Wonder: Photographing the Ancient Southwest from the Air," on September 26. Both events will be held at the CU Paleontology Hall.
