The Friends of Crow Canyon
The Friends of Crow Canyon is a very active and dedicated group of local people who support Crow Canyon in a variety of ways, most notably in their involvement in the Distinguished Lecturers series. The series raises money for the Four Corners Youth Scholarship Fund, which helps underwrite the participation of more than 900 area students attending Crow Canyon programs every year.
The Friends of Crow Canyon was formed in 1999, when several local community leaders approached the Center about offering on-campus lectures that would bring top scholars and speakers to this rural corner of Colorado. Their goal was to provide area residents with a fun opportunity to socialize, learn about a wide range of fascinating topics, and support a good cause. Since its inception, the group has grown from eight to 18 members, and the funds they have raised have subsidized up to 40 percent of local students’ Crow Canyon tuition in a given year.
In addition to helping organize the Distinguished Lecturers series—a huge effort that includes selecting speakers, obtaining local business sponsors, and assisting with the logistics of each lecture—the Friends of Crow Canyon holds one major fund-raising event each year and volunteers on various development projects on behalf of the Center. |
