Each High School Field School student gets the
chance to work in the field alongside trained
archaeologists. The student spends an average of six
hours armed with a trowel, dust pan, brush,
kneepad and bucket, digging in the field. Each
student will learn such techniques as point location,
how to keep notes, and how to read stratigraphy.
The field work is the grunt work of archaeology. It
will be the hardest and most tiring part of
archaeology, but many find it the most rewarding as
well.
