About Archaeologists online

As part of the Crow Canyon Archaeological Center's mission, Archaeologists Online is dedicated to educating the public about Southwestern archaeology and archaeology in general. Most of the questions and answers on Archaeologists Online relate to Crow Canyon's research on the ancestral Pueblo Indian culture that thrived in southwestern Colorado and the surrounding area.

Archaeologists Online was originally begun by Dr. Ricky Lightfoot in 1997 as part of an America Online, Inc., program, where students could ask questions of a variety of scientists in a real-time environment. Crow Canyon later expanded on this idea and Archaeologists Online was born.

Since 1997, numerous Crow Canyon archaeologists and archaeology educators have contributed to answering questions for Archaeologists Online. Crow Canyon receives many questions every month and not all can be posted online, but we try to answer all of the questions we receive and post questions and answeres that we think are helpful to students wanting to learn more about archaeology.

Archaeologists Online questions are organized into the following categories: new questions, questions about the ancestral Pueblo Indians (the Anasazi), general archaeology questions, questions about a career in archaeology, "tough" questions, and questions specifically about Crow Canyon and its activities.
