On Thursday, July 21st, we went hiking up to Centennial Peak in the La Plata Mountains ... and once again we had some unexpected adventures with the weather.

We hiked up to Sharkstooth Pass and from there climbed up to Centennial Peak

We are leaving the tree line

The trees give way to a meadow

Ali and Johanna share a relaxing moment on the mountain

Emily and Jay have a great view of the valley

"Sharkstooth Pass
11,936 ft ..."

From Sharkstooth, we will continue up the rocks in the background

But some prefer to stay behind and just relax

Rob hides his precious cold cut sandwich

Up, up, and away!

Johanna watches her step on the rocks

Sean takes a moment to reflect on the climb

Kate W is the King of the World!

Some people are really far ahead of the camera

Another meadow before the last big climb

The Colorado State Flower (supposedly)

Kate takes a break midway up

While others chill out at the very summit!

"Although it was treacherous, hiking up Centennial was amazing and quite an accomplishment for myself.  Centennial is my Everest."
-Mariah

Anne and Jessie are ready to start the climb back down

And there they go!

Another nice panorama of the valley below

Katie and Kate W pause for a picture on the slopes

Check out Sean's killer 80s socks

Randy and Sarah descend into the wasteland

Everybody works their way back down the mountain

... with Corey leading the pack

Corey rounds the corner

Tasha flashes her success

Monica demonstrates her climbing skills

Keren shows off her fancy footwork

Brett

... and Brett's dog

Hello Kirsten and Tayla!

Tayla also rounds the bend

Sean takes a picture of Katie

... so Katie takes a picture of Sean

Mariah and Kelsey smile on the way down the mountain

A wave from the Pauls

Scout shows off her rock-sliding abilities

Even Scout needs a breather

Paul reverts to his hippie days

Katie and Paul admire the view

Snowball fight... in July

The storm approaches bringing impending doom

Sean frolicks in the hail

Is it winter already?
