Goodman Point Pueblo, 5MT604

Goodman Point Pueblo is one of 42 sites located on the 142 acre Goodman Point Unit managed by the National Park Service, Hovenweep National Monument. 2005 marked the first of six years that Crow Canyon will be working at the Pueblo and surrounding sites. More information about the proposed research plan can be found here.

Crow Canyon is interested in addressing several different research questions through their work at the Goodman Point Unit. Some of these include

  • What was the occupational / settlement history of the Goodman Point Community and of Goodman Point Pueblo?
  • What was the nature and extent of influence from Chaco Canyon on the Goodman Point Community?
  • What was the settlement ecology of the Goodman Point Community?
  • What factors influenced Goodman Point community organization?

During the first week of HSFS, students toured the site, learned about these research questions and goals, and participated in a simulated excavation in the "sand box room" in preparation for doing actual field work. Weeks two and three were spent excavating at the site under the supervision of Crow Canyon's talented Field Crew and Educators.
